Ben was ejected into the world the usual way on the 12th day of the 1980s. He grew up in the south west of England in a smallish city called Gloucester, which was originally a Roman settlement not too far from Birmingham but not close enough to share the nasty accent. There are no Romans left in Gloucester.
Gloucester is famous for its Cathedral, Beatrix Potter (whom has a pretty little museum dedicated to her tucked away down one of the side streets), an annual cheese-rolling contest, a breed of pig, and a mass-murderer called Fred West. It also has a small boating lake that rents out canoes and pedaloes in the summer months, and on my last visit in the late 90s, most of the city centre was pedestrianised, which was so the city’s drunks didn’t keep falling off the footpaths into the traffic. Gloucester is very close to the regency town of Cheltenham, which is far prettier than Gloucester with its Cotswold stone buildings and distinct lack of mass-murderers.
When Ben finished university in 2002, he moved to London where he was quite happy making websites in a design studio near Old Street Station called de-construct. It took Ben 4 years to figure out he could be doing the same thing in a warmer climate. Moments after this revelation he quit his job and bought a one-way ticket to Sydney, Australia where he lives happily to this very day.
Ben is so far from a vegetarian you wouldn’t believe it. Ben makes poor consumer choices and often needs to be talked out of making ridiculous purchases: he has come very close to buying a unicycle more than once.
In Sydney, Ben lives in Surry Hills. He also works in Surry Hills at an advertising agency called Host (new website coming soon) and can walk to work in one and a half tracks on his iPod. He joined Fitness First a long time ago, and generally tries to exercise as often as a top athlete doesn’t. Ben thinks that Australian television is terrible, but this hasn’t stopped him buying a 42 inch high definition Panasonic widescreen plasma screen to watch it on.
